Have you/will you extend the warranty?

Already expired due to time, didn’t extend it.

Built 10/15/10, making it a 2011. In service date of 4/15/11, meaning the warranty expired on 4/15/15.

Wait?? I assumed you had more miles. Didn’t you have an actuator go out already? or am I thinking of someone else?

Nope, you’re thinking of me, had them both go out. Got the car with 15.7k on it in 2014. First one at 25k, second one at 36k.

38,000 miles at 38 F, 3+8=11 at 9 o’clock, E90M3 DID 9/11

Oh crap, I just hit 20k, and was thinking I had plenty of time before I have to worry about those.

It seems most last to like 40/50k, i think I just got really unlucky.

Whoa holy crap. I have an E64 M6 but I heard we use the same actuators. My car has 85k miles and they both went out so I figured I had another 80k to go... Guess not?
There is supposedly some new software for your car that is easier on the actuators because it smooths out input a little bit so it doesn’t wear the gears down so quickly. I just heard about this recently so I’m looking for info, but I haven’t found anything too solid yet.

I believe they are different, and that failure is a lot less common on the s54.

I don’t know much about the S54, but the S65 and S85 share a lot of parts. Your V8 is basically the same as the V10 with two less cylinders, but most of the tech is the same. The inline 6 motors have a lot less issues than these F1 inspired ones.
EDIT: I don’t know if you just mistyped, but I wasn’t sure what the S54 had to do with anything...

My brain read “e64 m6" as “e46 M3", that’s why I typed s54. You are correct the s85 and s65 share the same basic architecture, the actuators are slightly different, but both use plastic gears.

Damn, you really haven’t put that many miles on it.

The original owner leased it (and paid extra for 15k miles a year). He never even got a years worth of mileage out of the entire 3 years.

Haha, yeah it seems like a bunch of people leased them and then put almost no mileage on them. My dad has put under 5k miles on his 135is since he got it in July of 2015. He bought it outright though.

I haven’t put too much on it either though. I have another car to alternate between (that I’m less anal about).

Haha yeah understandable. Did you try to rebuild the actuators or did you replace them with new ones?
I tried to fix mine, but it ended up not working so I just bought new ones.

I used to have a second car as well, the only thing with my job was since I wasn’t home everyday, I’d drive the M3 all the time on my days off. I’m planning on getting another second car once I have another job. I’ll be less anal about it, but I even parked my Explorer at the back of the lot so it wouldn’t get door dings. I have no idea what I’d get as a second car either.

I just had them replaced, if it happens again, I might try and rebuild them.

That it is, I’d also think about another E90 or an F30 or another 1 series or maybe something from Mercedes. Guess I’ll have to get out and test drive somethings when it comes time.

That seems like a lot, I wanted one with under 20k when I was in the market.

If I was willing to spend more or willing to wait longer, I would’ve ended with an ‘09+ with less miles. I was not.

I feel you. I was tired of waiting but I figured the minute I settled I’d find exactly what I wanted on the market. I’d occasionally check once I bought my car and all the cars I’d bought were around the same money I paid, so I think I did alright.

I didn’t overpay, but they had just fallen within my reach (still $10k more than I’d originally planned to spend on a car) when I was in the market for a new car.

My budget was about 50k, I’d liked to spend less but that didn’t seem possible. I really wanted an LCI, which I’m sure you can understand why. I figured I should get exactly what I always wanted which was a 4 door M3.

If I’d done more research and known about the redesigned flywheel/clutch, I might have waited. It’s still possible that I’ll swap mine out for an ‘11 ZCP at some point - ha!

I didn’t even know that they had redesigned the clutch/flywheel. The taillights were almost enough to turn me off of the 2008. They look alright on a light color, like yours but not really at all with a dark color.

Yup - the only colors I was considering were SSII and Alpine White for that very reason.

That makes sense. I could not find a white one, so I settled for the space grey metallic, which has really grown on me. Also apparently grey is my families choice when it comes to cars. There are 5 of us in my immediate family, the only car that isn’t grey is my sisters 2002 Explorer, which my grandparents bought. She was thinking about replacing it with a Mazda CX5, in grey of course.

One of the reasons Space Gray was out was because my wife’s CX-9 was dark gray. Now we’ve replaced it with an MDX - silver, of course...
We’re so lame.

My mom has a grey RDX, didn’t stop my dad from getting a mineral grey 135is. Also space grey wasn’t available until 2009 with the facelift, before then it was sparkling grey metallic.
